The demand for a separate Bundelkhand state has been revived in the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly. The case came to light during the introduction of six languages including Bundelkhandi for use in assembly proceedings. Jhansi Nagar MLA Ravi Sharma seized an opportunity to strongly advocate a separate Bundelkhand state.
Sharma raised this demand in the presence of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly and many other members. He presented a long demand for a separate Bundelkhand state speaking in Bundeli dialect.
He started his speech by reciting a poem by the famous poet Isuri, “Listen to Bundelon’s Bundelon’s Bani Mein, Panidar Eutte Ko Panni, AAG It’s Panne Mein“. They expressed the spirit of the people of Bundelkhand, asking why they cannot create a separate state in view of their different culture, food and traditions.
The Chief Minister and other members were seen smiling in this statement, which was given by Jhansi MLA as a gentle rebuke in the local dialect.
The demand for a separate Bundelkhand has been voiced for many years. Early supporters included former MPs Vishwanath Sharma and Shankarlal Mehrotra. Subsequently, Bhanu Sahe and Kunwar Satyendrapal Singh made the reason the champion. Recently, BJP leader Raja Bundela also started a journey, increasing this demand. This issue has now gained momentum.
