A six -year -old boy who was trapped between a lift shaft and a wall in an apartment complex in the Masab tank area of Hyderabad, died on Saturday due to his injuries. The boy rescued after two -hour operation on Friday was undergoing treatment at the state -run hospital, but was declared dead around 12:30 pm.
The boy, known as Arav, got stuck in the first floor between the lift door and the wall, the Hindu said.
The incident took place on Friday when the boy went to visit a relative with his grandfather to a relative. According to preliminary investigation, the child entered the lift on the ground floor. Before the grill door could be closed, the lift started to ascending. As the boy tried to get out, he got trapped between the lift and the wall according to PTI.
The Hyderabad disaster response and the asset protection agency (Hydra) and the Fire Department of Fire Department reached the spot and worked for more than two hours to save the child. Using the gas cutter, they cut through the lift frame and floor slab to free it. The boy, who suffered severe internal injuries and was stuck for an extended period, was shifted to a hospital for immediate treatment, suffocating.
Despite medical efforts, the child could not survive and was declared dead on Saturday. A police officer said that the exact cause of death would be determined after a postmortem examination. However, preliminary reports suggest that the boy’s injuries and long suffocation were important factor.
Health officials suspect that poor maintenance of lift may have contributed to the accident. It is believed that the internal door failed to close properly, which created a deadly interval that trapped the child.
A case has been registered and further investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of malfunction and keep those responsible accountable.
