From July 12-18, Dr. Dr. Dr. SDG Data Alliance Executive Director. Greg Scott joined global leaders, innovators and geosalists at the 2025 ESRI user conference (ESRI UC) in San Diego, California. Hosted by ESRI, the world’s major geographical information system (GIS) software provider, annual gathering, ‘GIS – integrating everything, everywhere’, finding out how geo -strategic technologies are accelerating action towards permanent goals. Dr. Scott started the week in two high-level funds: ESRI National Geospatial Executive Summit and Senior Executive Summit, where the discussion was “focused on taking advantage of transformational technologies to better serve our stakeholders.” These sessions brought senior decision-makers from the government, multilateral institutions and private sector to find out how the geopolitical innovation is strengthening the institutional capacity, running multi-regional cooperation, and is able to take evidence-based decisions. On Monday, 14 July, while opening the ESRI user conference, SIDS Globaldata Hub was shown in the main presentation by Jack Dangermund, President of ESRI, while SDG data alliance was recognized as one of ESRI’s special and strategic relations, which lies its importance within the global ESRI community. As a special associate with SDG Data Alliance’s showcase ESR, on 16 July, Dr. Scott participated in the Sustainable Development Community Spotlight, presented the work of SDG Data Alliance to the global audience. His presentation highlighted how national SDG data hubs, shared platforms, dashboards and storymaps countries are able to translate intricate datasets into actionable insights that guide the scheme and policy. He also joined the humanist and sustainable development special interest group (SIG): “cooperating for influence”, emphasizing how SDG Data Alliance cooperated not only as a technical tool not only as a technical equipment, but also as a powerful communication medium. “We are better together – whether through system integration, data sharing, or collective story stories,” Dr. Scott said. “GIS is a technical tool as much as a technical one – and a powerful driver of cooperation.” Climate flexibility to formalize public -private cooperation for flexibility image: (left to right) Mark Hein, CEO, Fugro, and Jack Dangermund, Chairman, Seri. A major attraction of the week was the photo opportunity before the signature of a strategic partnership between Fugro and Ishari, founder of SDG Data Alliance. The purpose of this cooperation is to solve immediate environment and data challenges in the small islands developing states (SIDS) starting in Caribbean. Strengthening SDG data infrastructure gives an example of a broad push to unlocked, scalable and decision-set-to-land solution. Earth observation, high-resolution survey, and future modeling with Fugro’s capabilities, including GIS technology of ESRI, cooperation provides timely and actionable insight to support smart, fast and more flexible schemes. Dr. Scott participated in a working session with ESRI teams on the development of SIDS Country Data Hub and Map portfolio applications, which was being developed to support SIDS Global Data Hub, and later met with Jack Dangermand, president of ESRI to discuss progress and future cooperation under SDG data alliance.
