India, China relations should be directed by mutual respect, mutual sensitivity and mutual interest: Jaishankar tells Wang

India-China relations should be directed by mutual honor, mutual sensitivity and mutual interest, Minister of External Affairs S. Jaishankar expressed this to his Chinese counterpart Wang Ji on Monday (August 18, 2025).

Mr. Jishankar interacted with Mr. Wang shortly after landing in Delhi on a two -day visit.

In his initial remarks at the meeting, the Foreign Minister also underlined that there should be no differences between the two countries.

“This opportunity gives us an opportunity to fulfill and review our bilateral relations. It is a reasonable time to exchange ideas on the global status and some issues of mutual interest,” said Shri Jaishankar.

“After seeing a difficult period in our relationship, His Majesty, our two nations now want to move forward. This requires a clear and creative approach from both sides.

“In that attempt, we must be guided by three mutual honors, mutual sensitivity and mutual interests. Differences should not be disputed, nor competition struggle,” he said.

In his statement, Mr. Wang said, “The basis of any positive speed in our relationship is to maintain peace and peace on our limits.”

The Chinese Foreign Minister is mainly visiting India to organize the next round of special representatives (SR) dialogues on the boundary question. Mr. Wang and National Security Advisor Ajit Dowal are special representatives nominated for border talks.

Shri Wang was obtained by Gaurglal Das, Joint Secretary, East Asia Division of the Ministry of External Affairs at Delhi Airport.

Shri Wang’s visit arrives in the days before the planned visit to China to attend the annual summit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

The visit of the Chinese Foreign Minister is seen as part of the ongoing efforts by two neighbors on a large scale to rebuild their relationship, as it came under severe stress in 2020 after the Malignant Galvan Valley clashes.

Both sides are expected to discuss new confidence-making measures for sustainable peace and peace during the journey of Shri Wang, said that people familiar with this matter.

The Chinese Foreign Minister’s visit is also seen significantly as it is amid increasing stress in India-US relations, which was doubled by President Donald Trump to 50% of the tariff on Indian goods, including an additional penalty of 25% for the purchase of dandruff crude oil.

Shri Wang and Mr. Doval are going to organize a new version of SR Dialogue on the border question on Tuesday (August 19, 2025) at 11 am.

According to Mea, Mr. Wang will call PM Modi at his 7 Lok Kalyan Marg Niwas on Tuesday (August 19, 2025) at 5.30 pm.
