AIMIM failed to open an account in Delhi elections but made an impact. This way

The division of votes plays an important role in deciding the victory or defeat in elections. Two similar happened in Delhi constituencies, where the All India Majlis-e-Ithadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) in Hyderabad was in the ground.

AIMIM of Lok Sabha MP Asaduddin Owisi fielded candidates only in Okhla and Mustafabad , Two from seven Delhi constituencies with a significant part of Muslim voters , As it contested in its first assembly elections in the capital. While the two failed to make a mark and ended as the other runner -up, the upcoming partition of the opposition votes became a factor of BJP’s victory in Mustafabad.

AIMIM fielded Shifa ur Rehman Khan from Okhla constituency and former AAP councilor Tahir Hussain of Mustafabad. Both have been nominated as accused in cases related to Delhi riots, which took place in 2020. Rahman and Hussain are currently in jail.

First discuss what has happened in Mustafabad. In 2020, AAP candidate Haji Yunus won the seat. However, this time, the BJP snatched the seat. BJP’s Mohan Singh Bisht got 85,215 votes, while AAP’s Adil Ahmed Khan got 67,637. The role of AIMIM comes here. Tahir Hussain secured 33,474 votes, while Ali Mehdi of Congress got 11,763. This fragmentation of opposition votes in the constituency is believed to have worked for the benefit of BJP.

In Okhla, the vote fragrance brought down the victory margin of AAP AAP Amanatullah Khan, who have been winning this seat since 2015. In 2020, Amanatullah received around 66% of the votes, which was reduced by 42% this time. In full numbers, Amanatullah Khan won by around 24,000 votes this time, a sharp decline of 70,000 votes by a margin of 2020. The AIMIM’s decision to field a candidate from Okhla took Congress to fourth place in 2020 from third place. While Amanatullah Khan got 88,948 votes in the 2025 Delhi elections, Manish Chaudhary of BJP got 65,304. AIMIM came in third place with 39,558 votes, with Congress’s Ariba Khan, the daughter of former Congress MLA ASIF Khan, got 12,739 votes.
