New Delhi, February 10 (PTI) The new Chief Minister of Delhi should be elected from the elected BJP MLAs, a section of party leaders on Monday said amid discussion on the names of the claimants for the top post.

The BJP is going to form its government in Delhi after its victory in the assembly elections held on 5 February. Saffron’s party has dropped AAP out of power, winning 48 out of 70 seats in the election, the results of which were announced. Saturday.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) North West Delhi MP Yogander Chandolia told reporters, “The new Chief Minister should be selected from the newly-taken party MLAs.”

He said that among the newly-taked MLAs, there are several competent leaders, including two former Delhi BJP President, a national secretary of the party and several former state officials who have long political experiences.

Another senior BJP leader from Delhi also asked for the height of an MLA for the post of Chief Minister, saying that it would honor the mandate of the people that the party has received.

Citing the example of BJP veteran Vijay Kumar Malhotra, he said that senior party leaders in the past are predecessor.

Malhotra was a Lok Sabha MP when she was declared the Chief Minister of the party for the 2008 Delhi assembly elections. However, after the BJP was defeated in that election, he chose the Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly instead of maintaining his seat in Parliament, the senior leader said.

BJP leaders said that the process of government formation will begin after Prime Minister Narendra Modi returns from his foreign journey on 15 February. Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva on Sunday demanded an appointment for a meeting with the party MLA with the Lieutenant Governor.

He said that the date of the meeting of the BJP Legislature Party is yet to be finalized to elect the leader of the House in the Delhi Assembly.

After a gap of more than 26 years, the BJP has returned to power in the national capital, breaking the political dominance of the AAP led by Arvind Kejriwal for 10 years.

Speculation on the party’s pick for the post of Chief Minister has intensified, in which many names are rounding their caste, community, gender and regional affiliation.
