The actor, who plays the role of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj in Chhawa, posted some pictures from his time in the temple on social media. Well, a reason Vicky Kaushal Decided to visit the said temple. This Chhatrapati is located in the city of Sambhaji Nagar, named after the Maratha Raja, on which the film is based.

Gishneshwar Jyotirlinga Temple, Maharashtra

Located just 1.5 km from the famous Ellora caves, the temple is considered to be the last of the 12 Jyotilling dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple was built in the 18th century. According to legends, a dedicated woman named Kusuma prayed to a Shiva Lingam under an tamarind tree. It was marked as honey on the idol after a honeybee that it was marked as holy. After this incident, Lingam himself turned into Lord Shiva, due to which the temple was built at that place.

Built with a combination of a simple mixture of South Indian and Northern Indian styles, the temple has beautiful carvings and sculptures. It holds a spiritual value among the devotees because it involves a column of Jyotirlinga – a pillar of light that represents Lord Shiva.

Beyond its construction and carvings, the temple is also popular for its unique cultural traditions. For example, there is an old audience tree. It is considered more than 300 years old. Devotees connect thread around their branches with the belief that their wishes will come true. Once done once, they open these threads. Apart from this temple, tourists can also visit Ellora Caves, Ajanta Caves, Deogiri Fort and Bibi’s Maqbara, which are all in the surrounding area.
