Last year, nominated as Election Commissioner, Gyanash Kumar has been appointed as the next Chief Election Commissioner of India in place of Outgoing Rajiv Kumar, the next Chief Election Commissioner. Mr. Kumar will oversee the conduct of Bihar assembly elections later this year and elections in Bengal, Assam and Tamil Nadu next year. He took charge as a new poll chief this morning.
The appointment of Mr. Kumar came in late night development after a three -member panel meeting, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Leader of Opposition (LOP) Rahul Gandhi. However, it has provoked a line as Mr. Gandhi did not approve the appointment.
