Highlighting that women’s safety is a major issue in Delhi, Congress leader Lamba said

Bharatiya Janata Party selected Rekha Gupta As the new Chief Minister of Delhi reminded Congress leader Alka Lamba about his college days when he started his political career almost together 30 years ago. Lamba, who is now the President of the All India Women’s Congress, said that Gupta has a big responsibility to ensure that all women in Delhi feel safe.
Talking to News18, Lamba said that everyone sees Delhi Since it is the national capital, and what is happening in Delhi becomes an international news.
“He is the first MLA, and has a lot of challenges in front of him. But she also has all support, which is expecting people to do well despite having an office for the first time. He is accompanied by the Prime Minister, Home Minister and the entire central government. LG is with you and the issues faced by the previous government will not be for it, “Lamb said.
It is also likely that MCD mayor will also be from BJP, so there is no place where Gupta will not get support, the Congress leader said.
Highlighting that women’s safety is a major issue in Delhi, Lamba said that late Chief Minister Sheila Dixit faced the heat of the 2012 Nirbya ganging and murder, which staged a nationwide protest. Dixit remains Delhi’s longest service CM. He first entered the office in 1998 and remained CM till 2013.
“When the Chief Minister is a woman, it is expected that the state, in this case the national capital, is safe for women. Rekhaji gets ‘Z’ category security. He is safe now. For any woman CM, the most important thing is that women in the city feel safe as the Chief Minister, “Lamba said.
The Congress leader said that although Gupta has been a senior office-guardian in the BJP Women’s Wing, no one has seen them on the streets in support of women or in cases of crimes against women.
“I never saw her on the streets raising her voice in the fight for women’s safety and rights. But now, as she is accountable to the entire city, I hope she takes care of every woman in Delhi, “Lamba said.
Recalling her days at Delhi University, Lamba said that the word was just one year when she won the Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) election in 1995 and became its president from the Union of India (NSUI) of the National Students Union. Gupta was elected as the General Secretary of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) in the same year. Both were in the final year of graduation and were about 20 years old.
Lamba remembered that as a college student, Gupta had an aggressive nature, which he would have to let him go as the Chief Minister of Delhi.
“The ideological fight has its own place. But this should not affect the speed of development. His behavior, his language and his conduct should be fair; Otherwise, the journey would be very difficult for him, “Long said.
The Congress leader said that Gupta is getting as the Chief Minister of Delhi, it is not a small achievement, saying that she will do well and will make her responsibility right. Lamba also said that the two leaders are completely different ideologies. While Gupta follows the RSS, Lamba believes in the Gandhian ideology.
“It does not make us enemies. But there was always this difference between us. But I am really happy that the BJP has trusted a woman to become the Chief Minister of Delhi. If Gupta is successful, Delhi will also be successful. This is the time that work should be done, keeping ideologies separate; Otherwise, there will be no work and only struggle. Politics should be left for political parties. This is not for those holding constitutional positions. He is no longer related to any particular community because he is the CM of the entire Delhi, “Lamba said.
Gupta was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Delhi on Thursday morning.
