In a significant development, the Ministry of Home Affairs has provided the ‘Y’ category security cover to the founding actor-politician Vijay of Tamilga Wettery Kajham (TVK). The ‘Y’ category safety cover consists of Personal Safety Officer (PSO) and armed guards.

The move has created a political debate, the AIADMK has questioned the time and intention behind the decision. Senior AIADMK leader KP Munusamy on Friday expressed concern, suggesting that the security cover could be a strategic effort by the BJP to woo Vijay before the 2026 Tamil Nadu assembly elections.

Munusamy said that Vijay, who started his political party in February 2024, has attracted a large crowd and is emerging as a prominent person in the state political field. According to PTI, Munusamy said during a press interaction, “I would be happy that if the Center was generous in providing security to him. If not, would he have been given security that he gave it to the BJP to win by the BJP. Went.”

On the other hand, Tamil Nadu BJP chief K. Annamalai defended the decision, saying that many intelligence agencies had provided a security cover after the possible threats for Vijay’s life. Annamalai criticized the ruling DMK government, who, despite his growing influence and public busyness to fail to provide adequate protection to the actor-political, today, India reported.

Vijay, a popular Tamil film star, focused into politics with the launch of Tamilga Vatri Kazgam last year. His party has deployed himself as an alternative to both DMK, which currently controls the state, and the BJP at the Center. The entry into Vijay’s politics has been closely seen, seeing his mass fan and ability to gather crowds.

Earlier, Vijay also met political strategist Prashant Kishore and allegedly discussed the next course of action.
