A few days after the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) route from Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal is expected to meet Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and the AAP MLAs of the state on Tuesday.
According to sources, there will be a discussion on the recently concluded Delhi assembly elections. Punjab’s AAP unit has played an important role in the Delhi elections. However, after the party’s defeat in Delhi, the opposition has also become aggressive on the Punjab government.
In the Delhi Election 2025, after winning a majority in the 70 -member assembly, the BJP ended the long AAP rule. While the BJP won a decisive 48 seats, AAP was reduced to 22. The Grand Old Party Congress, once ruled Delhi for 15 years, again ran empty handed.
AAP convenor Kejriwal, who contested from New Delhi constituency, lost to BJP’s Parvesh Verma in a hot fight. Verma defeated Kejriwal by 4,089 votes, while Congress candidate Sandeep Dixit won 4,568 votes, finished third.
Other prominent AAP leaders who lost the election include Delhi Manish Sisodia, Saurabh Bhardwaj, Somnath Bharti and former Deputy Speaker Rakhi Birla.
Manish Sisodia lost to BJP’s Tarvinder Singh Marwah by just 675 votes. The AAP fielded Sisodia, three -time Pettiparganj MLA, this time Sisodia was fielded in the field to play a gambling.
Delhi Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj was defeated by BJP leader Shikha Roy by 3,188 votes, Bhardwaj has been a three -time MLA and was also a minister in Kejriwal’s cabinet, who organized the portfolio of home, health, power and urban development.
Another prominent AAP candidate, Somnath Bharti, lost to BJP leader Satish Upadhyay, former councilor, 2,131 votes. This was an unexpected disadvantage as Bharti was an MLA sitting from Malvia Nagar since 2013.
Another prominent AAP leader who lost was Rakhi Birla. Three-time Mangal Puri MLA, Birla, was fielded from Madipur-SC seat in this year’s elections. However, she lost to BJP’s Kailash Gangwal by 10,899 votes.
