New Delhi:
In a strong observation on the practice of political parties for free in front of the elections, the Supreme Court has said that people are “not ready to work” because of them and wonder if the “parasite class” is being created in the country. .
Hearing a case on the right to shelter of homeless persons in urban areas, a bench of Justice Bran Gawai and AG Masih said that people were getting ration and money without work.
“Instead of promoting them to be a part of the mainstream of society by contributing to the development of the nation, are we not forming a class of parasites?” The bench asked.
Drawing a punch, Justice Gawai mentioned the ‘Ladki Bahin’ scheme in Maharashtra – under which women in a group of 21-65 years of age with annual family income of less than Rs 2.5 lakh – Rs 1,500 per month – and so on Conduct programs of. In other states, the ruling parties and said, “Unfortunately, due to these freeings, which are declared only on the sign of elections, such as ‘Ladki Bahin’ and other schemes, people are not ready to work … They are free Ration and getting money without doing any work.
“We appreciate your concern for them, but would it not be better to make them a part of the mainstream of society and will allow them to contribute to the development of the nation?” The bench asked.
When Advocate Prashant Bhushan, who was present for one of the petitioners, said that there was hardly any person in the country who did not want to work, he was interrupted by Justice Gawai, who cited an example.
He said, “You should only have unilateral knowledge. I come from an agricultural family. Due to free in Maharashtra, which they announced before the election, farmers are not getting laborers,” he said.
‘Need to balance’
The bench mentioned that everyone, including Attorney General R Venkatarmani, was on the same page that provided shelter on the homeless merit, but asked, “At the same time, shouldn’t it be balanced?”
Shri Venkatarmani said that the Center was finalizing the urban poverty alleviation mission, which would deal with issues such as providing shelter to urban homeless. The bench asked the Attorney General for one time and also said that the Center should collect information from all the states so that the issue can be considered on the basis of Pan-India.
When one of the petitioners said that the cause of the homeless was not being addressed as it was final on priority and the authorities only showed compassion for the rich and not the poor, not the poor, their arguments were shot by Justice Gawai.
“Don’t give a political speech here. We will not allow our court room to be converted into a political battle … How do you say that compassion is shown only for the rich? Even for the government, how can you say this? ”
The case will now be heard after six weeks.
This is not the first time the Supreme Court has talked for free. In December, a bench of Justice Surya Kant and Justice Manmohan was surprised when it was informed by the Center that 81 crore people were being given free or subsidized ration under the 2013 National Food Security Act.
On migrant workers, who are receiving free ration since Kovid epidemic, the bench said, “How long can we be given free? We work for these migrant workers to create job opportunities, employment and capacity, do not do?”
Delhi High Court refuses
Supreme Court comments came on a day when the Delhi High Court on February 5 refused to hear a petition filed by a former judge filed by a former judge promised by the Aam Aadmi Party, Congress and BJP ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections on February 5. .
In his complaint, Justice SN Dhingra said that such promises made by the parties saw corrupt practices under the representation of People ACT and sought directions to declare the Election Commission as “unconstitutional”. The High Court asked the former judge to contact the Supreme Court, as it was reported that a similar case was already pending.
Free distribution has also become a political issue and Prime Minister Narendra Modi has often attacked AAP, Congress and other parties, accused them that they are trying to buy people’s votes by distributing people. “Revdis”Lacking, the parties have attacked the track records of the BJP -led government on inflation and unemployment and said that there is nothing wrong to use the taxpayer’s money to make people’s lives easier.
