Shoaib Bashir took six wickets and returned his best figures in Test cricket as England finished a major innings and 45-run win over Zimbabwe in a single match at Trent Bridge on Saturday.
Zimbabwe, the following, was dismissed for 255 on the third day of four, when England announced 565–6 in their first innings, including hundreds of people from Zak Croly (124), Ben Docket (140) and Oli Pope (171).
Off-spinner Bashir, who took only two first-class wickets this season before reaching Nottingham, gave the best figures of the 6-81 test on Saturday to end with a 9–143 match.
The off-spinner removed the aggressive scenes Williams and Obuduret Ben Curan on both sides of the lunch, as the third wicket pair was Zimbabwe’s first Test in England in about 22 years through the first session of Saturday.
Williams was certainly lost to Bryan Bennett in the match to achieve records for the fastest test century by a Zimbabwee batsman.
But 12 minutes before lunch, he was doing LBW sweeping in off-spinner Bashir, including just 82 balls for 88.
Together with Curan, he shared a century stand which revived Zimbabwe from 7–2.
Curan was dropped twice by England captain Ben Stokes and reprimanded by a review when Bashir was given LBW on the field – not out of 96 balls in lunch with just one four.
But Curon-Divid Zimbabwe gave his wicket to Sam and Tom-Ne 37, son of all-rounder Kevin and England International, when he left Bashir for stokes on the cover.
Stokes, playing their first match of the year in any form of cricket after hamstring surgery, then intervened to tell another with the ball after taking two first innings wickets.
But he needed Brooke’s help, hit the face on the face while fielding in the first slip in the session, removed the Vesley Madhavre for 31.
Madhavre struggled to go to the top of the rapidly growing small ball from Stokes and was brilliantly caught by Brook, a jumping to the England captain’s visible mistrust of the England captain.
21-year-old Bashir, who took 50 Test wickets to become the youngest England bowler in 265, three times in Zimbabwe’s first innings, then cleaned Tafadzwa Tsiga with a brilliant off-break, which had shut down the leg stump.
Alexander Raza completed 57 balls fifty, but was powerless to prevent 218–6 from being transformed into 222-7, when Bashir was excluded for duck by blessing Mujarbani.
The match ended when Tanaka was LBW for Bashir with Chivanga Zimbabwe, then nine wickets below, but the injured psychman Richard Narav had hurt even after being unable to bat in the first innings.
Zimbabwe did not exclude Curan Four Not Out and fellow left-handed batsman Williams 22 on Saturday.
21 -year -old Bennett, who broke Williams’s record with a 97 -ball centenary in Zimbabwe’s first innings, 265, already fallen for just one second.
Stokes brought himself to the second over of Saturday, dropped a sharp return catch from Curan, then at 10, with his first ball of the day.
Williams completes 42 balls with his 10th four-a straight bowler Josh Tongue made a rope from the rank of colorful Zimbabwe’s fans in the stand to the rope.
At 29, Curan cut a bridge with only one tongue bouncer for diving stokes to leave a difficult opportunity in midwicket.
And on 30, Curan was excluded from the long Bashir to LBW, before the Repley indicated that the ball would have jumped on the stumps.
The technology moved against Williams, however, when she missed a sweep against Bashir, retained her dismissal over the umpire’s call.
