The 2025-26 Ranji Trophy will be held in two phases from October 15 to February 28, with a Twiced format that will look into the promotion and charge of a team from the plate group. Earlier, at the end of the tournament, the two sides were promoted and re -accused. BCCI took its decision at its top council meeting on Saturday, June 14.
Back in 2018-19, the BCCI added nine teams to the Ranji Trophy, including the North East teams, but it has influenced the quality of cricket in the major domestic competition. Meghalaya was played at the Ranji Trophy Elite Division, but lost all its seven matches in the last season.
Read a BCCI note in PTI’s possession, “All multi-day men’s tournaments (Senior and Junior), 1 team will be promoted and 1 team will be re-established for the 2026-27 season group.”
The format change in red-ball cricket will apply to all BCCI tournaments in age groups.
The first phase of the Ranji Trophy will be played from 15 October to 19 November, while the second phase will run from January 22 to February 1. The knockouts will be played from 6 February to 28 February.
The Dalip Trophy, which returns to the zonal format, will mark the onset of the season and run from 28 August to 15 September. “The team will be selected by the zonal selection committee,” the BCCI said.
The Iranian Cup will run from 1 to 5 October.
Super league in smat
The plate division has been re -presented in all one -day competitions including Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
By last season, the knockout game included standard quarter -finals, semi -finals and final stages. But from this season, qualified teams will get three additional matches in the Super League.
The top teams of Group A and B will meet in the finals. Six teams below last season will form a plate group. Smat will be played from 26 November to 18 December.
Additionally, for all white ball tournaments, the head-to-head clause has been removed for merit, and the net run rate will now determine which teams move in the team competition if they have the same points and victory.
