Chennai Power Shutdown: Residents of Chennai have been designed to experience Valentine’s Day, Power Shutdown on 14 February, as Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation Limited (TangedCO) has announced maintenance work in many areas of the city. About 15 areas will be affected by the outage, which is scheduled to last for five hours, from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm.
Tangadco has assured the residents that if maintenance work is completed before the schedule, the power supply can be restored first. According to Live Chennai, areas affected by Shutdown include:
Ambattur: Ponniamman Nagar, Kasthuri Nagar, Metro City Phase 2, Agragram.
JJ Nagar: TVS Colony, TVS Avenue, TVS Main Road, Dewar Nagar.
Ayyapakkam: TNHB ayyapakkam phase 1 and 2, TNHB plot nos. 7000 to 10000, ICF Colony, Thiruverkadu Main Road, TNHB plot nos. 6000 to 7000, MGR Puram Road.
The announcement was made a day after the experience of a similar power shutdown at Porur, Red Hills, and East Mogpair, which included 40 locations, including Eyapantangal and Kattupakkam.
However, on Friday, the shutdown time matches with Valentine’s Day celebrations, one day when Chennai’s market activity is stirred. Coimbedu flower market is already stocking fresh roses in red, pink and white with traders, catering for couples eager to celebrate the opportunity. There is also a huge demand for metal balloons filled with chocolate and helium among the joints.
However, the feeling of celebration comes with a caution note. Electric utility company Firstenergy has urged people to alert helium balloons, which if released, can cause electrical outage by killing power lines, reported by Yahoo.com.
Despite the inconvenience caused by the power shutdown, many Valentine’s Day shows and events are to be held across the city. Residents are advised to plan their day accordingly and make alternative arrangements to ensure that their celebrations are uninterrupted.
Tangadco has requested the public to cooperate as they do the maintenance work required to improve the city’s power infrastructure.
