August 7 (Reuters) – New Zealand did not delay to achieve the upper hand over Zimbabwe on the first day of the second Test, throwing out his hosts for 125 before reaching 174–1 in a reply at Bulwayo.
Opener Devon Conway (79) and Knightwatchman Jacob Dafi (8) were unbeaten in stumps, as New Zealand scored 49 runs.
Conway and Will Young put at 162 for the first wicket, before Young was cut on delivery from Trevor Gwandu, which was bowled for 74 just before the closure.
Matt Henry, in New Zealand’s broad first Test victory, man of the match, raced for another five wickets with 5-40 in 15 overs, while Debubabewe took Deburi Fallks 4-38 after Zimbabwe’s toss 4-38.
Brendon Taylor Top scored with 44 for Zimbabwe, when he saw on the course for a successful return in the team at the age of 39.
He returned after serving a three-and-a-half-year ban to break anti-corruption and anti-doping rules and talked about overcoming alcohol and drug addiction to revive his test career before the match, which began 21 years ago.
“How good it is that three years ago, I didn’t get out of bed and now I am doing what I love, and it’s representing Zimbabwe?” Taylor said in an emotional television interview before the first day’s game.
“I was in the dark depth of the abyss and was trying to get through this total and understanding of life. It was incredibly difficult.”
He was the fifth Zimbabwe wicket when a ball of Henry was standing on him and he put an easy catch on Mitchell Santner on an additional cover.
Wicketkeeper Tafdzwa Tsiga made only other significant contributions with an unbeaten 33.
Fast bowler Foulx was one of the three debuts for Kiwi, whose captain Tom Latham failed to fit a fitness test on a shoulder injury, with St.onner deputing for a second serial match.
