According to Harihar Purana, Holi was first started by Lord Shiva, which was in a story associated with Kamdev, the god of love, and his Sangh Rati.

Another legend of Harihar Purana states that during the astronomical feast, Lord Shiva played the role of his Damaru (drum), Lord Vishnu played the flute, Goddess Parvati played the role of Veena, and Goddess Saraswati sang the tunes of Vasant. . This joyful atmosphere gave rise to a tradition of celebrating Holi with music, dance and colors on Phalguna Purnima.
