How to increase IPL’s increasing assessment increases the increasing revenue of Indian Cricket Board


The 18th edition of the Cash-Rich Indian Premier League was closed in a week’s time in Eden Garden, Kolkata. Cash currents

IPL offers three main sources of revenue for BCCI: media rights, transfer of revenue from IPL teams, and sponsorship. These three streams contribute more than 95%of the total income of BCCI to BCCI: Media Rights (57%), Income (26%) from Franchise and Selling Selling Deal (13%). Half (55%) of BCCI’s total expenditure on IPL goes as a transfer to franchise.

Prime-time phenomenon

For the inaugural edition of the IPL in 2008, the Board sold Telecover Rights to the Sony Television Network of India and the Consortium of the World Sports Group (WSG) in Singapore. 4,048 crore for a period of 10 years. Within a year, the board spoke to the deal with the consortium again 8,200 crores for the remaining nine years.

Today, the telecast rights of the tournament are divided between three companies: Disney+Star, Viacom 18 and Times Internet. In 2022 for the next five years, the deal made BCCI rich 48,391 crore, about 12 times at the price of the inaugural deal.

BCCI’s second largest source of IPL income is from franchise views: this is the amount transferred to the board in exchange for annual fees, franchise auction money etc. by IPL teams.
