‘Inhuman Act’: South Korea gave North Korea to demolish the reunion center of North Korea – Times of India


North Korea is tearing a major site, once hosted for reunion for families separated from the Korean war, South Korea confirmed the “inhuman” step on Thursday.
The Ministry of Integration of Seoul stated that Mount Kumgang Reunion Center, which has long provides emotional meetings between different relatives, being demolished by Pyongyang.
‘Trampling on the wishes of different families’
A spokesman for the ministry said, “The demolition of Mount Kumgang Reunion Center is an inhuman work that collides on the wishes of the Bayana of different families.”
South Korea “urges an immediate stop for such tasks” and “expresses strong regrets,” the official said.
“North Korea’s unilateral demolition cannot be justified under any excuse, and North Korean officials should bear full responsibility for this situation.”
Decades of separation
Since 1988, more than 133,600 South Koreans have registered as “separate families”, which means that they have relatives to their north. However, by 2025, according to official data, around 36,000 are still alive.
Over the years, some families were allowed to meet at the Mount Kumgang Resort in the employed reunion, but these meetings often depended on political relations between the two Korea. The final reunion was in 2018.
Reunion was a rare opportunity for aging family members to meet their loved ones after decades, but North Korea has often used them as a bargaining tool in a conversation with Seoul.
Seoul has condemned Pyongyang’s decision, has seen it as another shock so far Inter-corean relationship,
