A clean tap-in by Daniel Chutuvu of Nigeria late in the second half won 2–1 over Punjab FC in an Indian Super League (ISL) match at Nehru Stadium here on Saturday. This was only the second win in 10 matches for Chennaiyin at home.

It was a terrible competition in which both teams were seen fighting teeth and nails. While the first half was largely belonging to Chennain, the second saw that visitors create better opportunities, especially in extra time.

The host scored an early goal through penalty in the first half. The Melroy Assisi saw the ball handling the ball after Chennaiyin’s Vignesh was thrown, resulting in the referee indicating the opportunity. Wilmer Jordan did the rest.

Punjab level the score at the beginning of the second session, thanks to Luka Majen for a clever and the touch of the best left leg. A magnificent pass seen by Pulga Vidal saw the ball inside the Slovenian angle.

Dukvu, who rarely came as an alternative to 15 minutes, left for the hero for Chennaiyin, with a good touch with his left leg.

The visitor did not throw into the towel and made several opportunities from the right -wing with some teasing cross by Muhammad Suhail, but no one further could eliminate it. Majen’s shot was added by Chennai’s goalkeeper Mohammad Nawaz. Later, Nawaz jumped high by Vidal to remove a long ranger.

Result: Chennaiyin FC2 (Wilmer Jordan 19-Pen, Daniel Chukuvu 84) BT Punjab FC1 (Luka Majkan 48).
