Maharashtra Agriculture Minister and NCP leader Manikrao Kokte was sentenced to two years imprisonment by a court here in a 1995 case where he was accused of submitting fake documents to get a flat under a government quota. Was installed.
The minister later told reporters that the court had granted him bail, and he would transfer the High Court against the verdict.
Nashik district and the session court also convicted their brother Sunil Kokte in the same case, which was registered in 1995 on the complaint of former minister, late TS Digole. The court imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on both brothers each.

According to the prosecution, Kokate and his brother were allocated two flats for a low income group (LIG) on the college road in the Mala area under 10 percent discretionary quota of the Chief Minister. To be eligible, he made false claims of being related to the LIG category and did not make the owner of a house in the city, it was alleged.
After contacting the police, DIGHole, a case of cheating, forgery and other crimes under the Indian Penal Code was registered for the government here against the Koks and two others.
The rival NCP (SP) demanded that Kokte should resign after the verdict.
He will be the second minister of the NCP led by Ajit Pawar in the BJP -led state government to get himself in trouble. NCP leader and cabinet minister Dhananjay Munde is facing heat, when in December 2024, a village in Beed district was arrested in the case of forced recovery related to the brutal murder of a sarpanch.
