Salman Nizar had to wait for more than nine years for his first first -class century. And once it came in the last league stability of the Ranji Trophy against Bihar last week, he took that speed to the quarter -finals and so far scored another ton – this time against Jammu and Kashmir.
While his innings brought Kerala back to the game, for Nizar, all this was about being ‘positive’ and building his innings. He said on Monday, “I have been playing first-class cricket for 10 years, but I did not find any 100 in the last eight-nine years, so I was really working hard for it.”
While starting the day at 200 for 9, there was a challenge to get the team out of the jungle for Nizar, and by sewing a final wicket partnership with Basil Thampi, Nizar scored a run for Kerala. Ensured the edge. Before exiting to bat, he had a long conversation with coach Ama Khursia and Jalaj Saxena, who scored fifty runs. While Saxena advised him to hit the spinners, the coach asked him to play independently. “He (Khurasia) gave me a strong belief that we can do miracles. He told me that cricket is like this, many times you can do miracles if you believe in yourself. Therefore, he asked me to hang there and assured that Tulsi would return me. And it certainly helps, ”he said.
Since his debut in 2015, the Nizar has been inside and outside the Kerala team, but he did not give up. “Many times, it was disappointing, but I contributed to the team with the 40s and 50s, but I could not turn those people into a big score. So I was not happy with this, but now that the time is at the end, I am happy, ”he said.
