The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Friday left the cooperative bank board for a year and appointed a administrator to manage his affairs. Earlier, one day, it imposed several restrictions on the lender, including the return of funds by the depositors, citing supervisory concerns emanating from recent physical development in the bank, and to protect the interest of its depositors.

Based on a complaint against Mehta and others, the police registered a case within the hours of Saturday, which was then transferred to the Economic Offenses Wing (EOV) for investigation, an official said.

He said, “Mehta has been brought to the Eow office in South Mumbai and is being questioned by his officials.”

He said that the bank’s Chief Executive Officer, Devarshi Ghosh, approached Dadar Police Station in Central Mumbai on Friday and filed a complaint against Mehta and others.

“According to the complaint, Mehta hatched a conspiracy with other colleagues and embezzled Rs 122 crore from the coffers of the bank’s Prabhadevi and Goregaon offices,” he said.

On the basis of the complaint, the Joint Code of India (BNS) Section 316 (5) (Criminal violation of the trust by others on the posts of trust), 61 (2) (criminal conspiracy), a case was registered, he said, said, Saying that the matter was transferred to EOW in view of its scope.

The New India Cooperative Bank has 28 branches and most of them are located in Mumbai, while two neighbors are in Gujarat and one in Pune.

The RBI action against the bank triggers nervousness among its customers, who hoped their branches to reach their savings from morning on Friday, but refused to enter the campus.
