Mustafabad BJP MLA proposes to change the name of the constituency after winning the Delhi poll


After the BJP’s glowing victory in the Delhi Assembly Elections 2025, the party MLA from Mustafabad seat, Mohan Singh Bisht, has expressed his plan to change the name of the region to Shivpuri.

“We will change the name from Mustafabad to Shivpuri or Shiva Vihar … I will definitely change the name because I did development work from 1998 to 2008 … and the work of development is not related to the name,” Mohan Singh. The news agency Annie told Annie amid speculation about changing the name of Mustafabad.

Mustafabad, who has a large extent Muslim population, saw the most voters voting in the city. Bisht succeeded in securing the seat with 85,215 votes, defeating his nearest AAP rival Adil Ahmed Khan by 17,578 votes.

AIMIM fielded accused in many Delhi riot cases

According to the news 18 report, the Mustafabad seat, which was won by Haji Younus of AAP in 2020, saw four-way competition in the 2025 assembly elections. While the BJP focused on caste-based politics to “Bisht brand,” Congress, AAP, and AIMIM.

Under the leadership of Asaduddin Owaisi, Eimim fielded Tahir Hussain, who is an figure accused in many Delhi riot cases, who secured 33,474 votes, but finished third. Congress candidate Ali Mehdi secured the fourth position to secure 11,763 votes.

A five-term veteran Bisht from Karawal Nagar seat was transferred by the BJP to contest from Mustafabad in an important reshuffle. He blamed his victory for supporting the party’s leadership and promised widespread development for the constituency.

The BJP won 70-strong Delhi Legislative Assembly seats, which came out of power from the Aam Aadmi Party under the chairmanship of former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
