Munich:
US vice -president JD Vance on Friday, an attack against immigration, populist parties and European policies on free speech, resonating President Donald Trump, whom he called Washington’s “new Sheriff in the city”.
Vance’s speech – which focused on the major topics of Trump’s Maga campaign – a combative security conference was widespread at the Munich Suraksha Sammelan at the time of deep transatlantic discord on Ukraine, Defense, Business and other issues.
Vance insisted that Europe should “step” to manage its security, a major bone of dispute. But he provoked members of the European Union on most culture war issues.
“The city led by Donald Trump has a new sheriff,” Vance said in a speech that the room shocked, and was later condemned by the German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius as “unacceptable”.
“We may disagree with your thoughts, but we will fight to defend your right to present it in the public class,” Vance said. “agree or disagree.”
Vance slammed the European Union’s “Compissar” for independent expression and alleged that “in the whole of Europe, free speech, I am afraid, retreat”.
‘Change Course’
The German President Frank-Walter Steinmier had earlier clarified what Berlin’s most important diplomatic relationship was, since Trump returned to the White House.
“The new American administration has a very different world scene for us,” Steinmier said. “One is that there is no connection for established rules, partnership and established trusts.”
The German chief urged the European leaders to remain calm in front of an icy storm of disruptive policy announcements from Washington.
“We should not freeze in fear, or as the English saying: Let’s not be a deer caught in the headlights.”
In his subsequent speech, Vance urged European countries, including the host Germany, the host of the conference, which faces elections for the “change course” on the immigration on 23 February.
His speech came a day later when a 24-year-old Afghan man was arrested on a car-roming attack in Munich in which 36 people were injured.
“How many times should we face these horrific failures before changing the course and taking our shared civilization in a new direction?” He said.
“Why this happened in the first place? This is a terrible story, but it is one that we have heard many times in Europe and unfortunately in the United States too many times.
“A refugee seeker, often in his mid -20s a young man is already known to the police, takes a car into the crowd and shatter a community.”
Defending the political parties opposing immigration and their supporters, Vance said: “No voters on this continent went to the polling box to open a flood attack for millions of immigrants of millions of immigrants.”
‘Medaling’
Germany warned of Germany on Friday against foreign “medaling” in its politics, when Vance played a major role for anti -immigration parties of Europe nine days before the German general election.
Vance told The Wall Street Journal: “Unfortunately, the wishes of the voters have been ignored by many of our European friends on the issue” and urged governments not to exclude anti -immigration parties.
The distant option for Germany (AFD) is ready for its best result of about 20 percent in the election and has received enthusiastic support from Tech Billionaire and Trump Elli Elon Musk.
Vance said Germany should use the weight of Tesla and SpaceX boss, such as the United States criticized the Swedish climate activist Gita Thunberg.
“If the US democracy can survive 10 years of Greta Thunberg, you can live for a few months of Elon Musk,” he said.
“But what German democracy, no democracy – American, German or European – will survive, tell millions of voters that their thoughts and concerns, their aspirations, their arguments for relief are invalid or ineligible.”
Vance also touched a warm German-pre-election debate around the need of mainstream political parties to maintain the so-called “firewall” of non-letters with AFD.
“Democracy rests on the holy principle that people’s voice matters,” he said. “There is no place for firewall.”
Pistorius exploded Vance, saying, “Democracy was questioned by the US vice -president for the whole of Europe”.
“He talks about the destruction of democracy. And if I have understood it correctly, he is comparing situations with those people in ruling rule in some parts of Europe … it’s not acceptable.”
