The BJP is targeting Congress Deputy Leader Gaurav Gogoi in the Lok Sabha on Callbourne’s alleged ties with Pakistan’s spy agency. Congress hit back

Pradeet Boardolyo dismissed the allegations, accusing Sarma of indulging in “Schuldagari politics”. Meanwhile, Gogoi claimed that the controversy was promoted for the fear of the BJP to lose the 2026 Assam assembly elections.
The Assam Police on Monday formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the Pakistani National Ali Tauqir Sheikh on its social media comment on Assam and India’s internal affairs. Sheikh, an advisor to Pakistan’s Planning Commission and a former ally in Kalbourne, has been charged under the Joint Code of India (BNS) and the illegal activities (prevention) Act (UAPA).

No case against Gogoi, investigation in the role of campaign

Despite the allegations, the Assam cabinet decided not to register any case against Gogoi or Kalbourne, but directed the state police chief not to register an FIR against Sheikh. Gogoi ridiculed the allegations, called him “laughter and entertaining”, and accused the BJP of trying to discredit his family. He also vowed to take legal action against the allegations.
