Pilot Grouping Air India, big fee against Indigo Hiring Policy

Mumbai:

On Tuesday, a group of pilots alleged that Air India and IndiGo had a silent understanding to not hire each other from each other, saying that employment in the aviation sector should be fair.

A Airline Pilot Association of India (ALPA India), a member of the International Federation of Airline Pilot Association (IFALPA), has flagged off the issue to the Ministry of Civil Aviation.

Air India and IndiGo did not comment on PTI questions about the allegations of the pilots.

An Indigo official said that there was no substance in the allegations.

In a letter to Civil Aviation Minister’s letter to Rammohan Naidu, Alpa India has expressed concern about recent reports that Air India and IndiGo have agreed not to hire each other pilots.

The letter stated, “Such a system, if true, raises serious legal and moral questions as it restricts the fundamental right to employment and fair competition,” the letter said.

ALPA India has urged the minister to ensure that employment in the aviation sector remains appropriate, open and constitutional and legal principles.

India is one of the fastest growing markets in the world and more than 1,800 aircraft are at order. There is also an increasing demand for pilots as carriers expand their fleet to meet the growth of air traffic.

ALPA represents more than 800 pilots in India Airlines and helicopter companies.
