IPL 2025 is set to start with a match between title holders Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore at Eden Gardens on 22 March, also the place nominated for this year’s final on 25 May. PTI has learned that this year, Dharmasal and Guwahati will host a couple of IPL matches.
After Dharmasla Mulanpur, Punjab will be the second house of Kings, while Rajasthan Royals will establish their base in the North Eastern city besides the regular site of Jaipur. The BCCI is yet to release the schedule, but it is expected that the governing body will announce a complete list of places and matches at the beginning of next week.
In IPL 2024, Punjab hosted Chennai Super Kings and RCB and lost both matches. However, this year the picturesque site can get an additional match. Royals played PBK and KKR in Guwahati last year, while they lost the match against Punjab, the match against Knight Riders ended in a washout.
The five-time champion Super Kings, led by Ruturaj Gikwad, will open their IPL 2025 campaign against Mumbai Indians led by their home ground-Ma Chidambaram Stadium-Hardic Pandya on 23 March, which also holds five titles in the league.
While both CSK and Mi have reduced their captaincy options to Kolkata, their leader is still named after IPL-winner captain Shreyas Iyer after joining PBK after the mega auction. Royal Challengers also have a new captain in Rajat Patidar, who replaced FAF do Plessis.
