Police said on Tuesday that the accused was arrested after a comprehensive investigation by the accused Deepu Philip (36), a native of Vellarikundu in Kasargod district and a resident of Pramadam in the district.
Investigation revealed that he had sexually assaulted the woman between March 1, 2022 and 7 February this year.
Deepu’s fraud activities began a decade ago when they married a woman from Vellarikundu, Kasargod. After receiving his gold jewelry and money, he left him with his two children.
Later, he fled to Tamil Nadu with another woman from Kasargod and stayed with him for some time before disappearing. He then moved to Ernakulam, where he reached close to another woman and lived with him for a while.
Eventually, he met Alappuzha’s woman through Facebook, formed a relationship with her, and later married her in Arthur.

She said that the truth about her fraud came to light because the woman whom she was currently getting married and living with her.
Deepu’s second wife became a Facebook friend of his current wife. Police said it was the information that he eventually highlighted the fraud of the fraud.
When Deepu received insurance payment of Rs 3.5 lakh related to the previous vehicle accident case, he started losing interest in his current wife.
As she tried to leave her, she became suspicious and contacted the Kony police with the complaint.
On the basis of the complaint filed on Saturday, the police registered a case and after preliminary action, the accused was taken into custody from Pathanamthitta area. He was arrested at around 2 pm on Monday.
After a medical examination and collection of evidence, the police registered his confession. The woman’s statement was also recorded in Pathanamthitta JFM Court-II.
The investigation revealed that the accused had taken the woman to places like Vellarikundu and Thiruvananthapuram, where she had sexually assaulted her, the police said.
A thorough investigation was conducted following the instructions of the district police chief, which led to a fast arrest of the wedding fraud within a few hours.
A team led by Koni Police Inspector P Sreejith caught the accused.
Police said he was produced before the court and sent to custody.
