Police said that at least six workers were feared to be trapped, when a section of the roof collapsed under the construction of Sreesailum Left Bank Canal (SLBC) in Nagarkarnool district of Telangana on Saturday.
The team of the construction company has gone inside for evaluation and is verifying it, he said.
A senior police officer told PTI that according to the information given by the company engaged by the company, six to eight workers are feared to be trapped.
“When some workers went inside the tunnel 12-13 kilometers inside the tunnel as part of the work, the roof fell.”
Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy and senior officials are overseeing relief operations.
Official sources said the incident took place in the ongoing construction of the SLBC tunnel work on the inlet side from Srisailam.
