Elon Musk, head of the US government’s efficiency department, on Monday claimed to have discovered “the biggest fraud in history” after more than 20 million individuals were found listed as a centenary in the Social Security Database.
In a social media post on X, Musk shared a chart showing age distribution for zero to 369 years and described the number of ‘worthy’ social security numbers as greater than the US population.
“According to the Social Security Database, these are the number of people in each age bucket, of which false sets in the field of death!” Musk said.
According to a report by the New York Post, the revelation was previously documented by the Social Security Administration (SSA) oversight body. The audit of July 2023 identified 18.9 million people listed as centenary in the database, only 86,000 according to the census data in the US despite the actual century.
Last March 2015 also found 6.5 million persons over the age of 112 with social security numbers, but there was no death record, although only 35 people reached that age globally.
Both audit confirmed that despite showing people born in 1886 and 1893, almost no one received social security payment. About 18.4 million did not receive profit or income reported for 50 years, suggesting that they were deceased.
The report attributed it to historical boundaries: “We believe that SSA did not receive or recorded the death of 18.9 million persons mainly because mainly individuals died – Before using electronic death reporting. “
Among the listed people, 44,000 were benefiting, including 13 in the age of 112 years. In 112, the world’s oldest man Salustiano Sanchhez -Blazecase – a musician, coal miners and western New York count Rumi enthusiasts – died shortly after the first audit started.
Possible identity in the audit, with cases of fraud, detected 531 million unique social security numbers in circulation. The 2015 audit identified about $ 3.1 billion in the income reported using incorrect social security numbers.
Alex Notosteh of the Cato Institute stated that several numbers “are paying illegal immigrants, not by taking out fake recipients.” He told The Post that the migrants were “stealing the identity of those who are dead but not marked in the social security system.”
Experts believe that Musk conveyed all the numbers issued from 1936 to the “Pneuent” list. A former SSA employee explained that some individuals have several numbers, either due to fraud or new number in the form of victims.
Other federal agencies have faced similar issues. The Pension Benefit Guarantee Corporation, who earned $ 127 million in overpayments for the pension funds of a teamstors with about 3,500 dead members during the presidential president of Biden, later settled with DOJ.
Fuller, born in 1874, became the first US social security recipient in January 1940, collected $ 22,888.92 until his death in 1975.
SSA representatives have not yet responded to the comment requests.
