The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has decided to capitalize on recent comments about the Maha Kumbh of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, turning it into a major political issue.

During his budget answer speech, Banerjee criticized the arrangements in the religious gathering, which was mentioned as “Mritu Kumbh” (death Kumbh) and highlighted the lack of facilities for the poor, while VIP treatment was given to some Was.

Inner sources in the Trinamool Congress (TMC) say that Banerjee’s comments were directed at the Yogi Adityanath government and the Center, which aims to highlight his mismanagement of the incident, especially in the light of recent stampede. However, BJP leaders, including opposition leader Suvandu Adikari, condemned their statement as an attack on Hindu sentiments and the sanctity of the Kumbh Mela. The officer also announced a protest march and said that he was planning to submit a deputation to the Governor on the matter.

In a series of tweets, BJP leader Amit Malviya accused Banerjee of contempt for Hindu traditions and to please his vote bank. He cited his previous tasks, including his inconvenience with the word “Kafir” and association with politicians who have made controversial remarks about Hindus. Malavia believes that the incident reflects Banerjee’s increasing insecurity after Arvind Kejriwal’s recent political defeat in Delhi and reflects his own loss in Nandigram.

In response, Banerjee questioned the BJP’s efforts to join terrorists and accused the hypocrisy party, highlighting their alleged dependence on Muslim support during the election. Speaking in the Bengal Assembly, Banerjee said that he would write a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing the BJP’s issue of having a relationship with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir.

She also defended her stance on the Kumbh Mela, saying that she was only criticizing the arrangements in the spiritual gathering, especially the lack of bodies that reached Bengal without VIP treatment and proper documents.
