The United Arab Emirates (UAE) women’s cricket team took a rare step during their match against Qatar at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier 2025 at the Teerdathi Cricket Ground in Bangkok on Saturday. After dominating the bat, the entire UAE line-up retired to manage time, eventually won the match by a large margin of 163 runs. Batting first, UAE opener Theratha Satish and Captain Esha Rohit Oza gave their team a great start. The pair held a 192 -run partnership in just 16 overs. Oja scored 113 runs in 55 balls, hit 14 fours and five sixes, while Satish supported 74 of 42 balls which included 11 borders.
The T20 is not allowed to reduce rain hazards at the international level and announce announcements, the UAE took a strategic decision. Every batsman padded, went to the crease, and retired soon after arriving. This allowed the UAE to complete their innings quickly so that they could bowl before the game interruptions. This was a unique but legal strategy under the T20I rules.
Unusual moves did not affect the result. The UAE bowlers did a mild work of Qatar’s batting line-up, leading them to just 29 runs in 11.1 overs. Left-arm spinner Mitchell Botha led the bowling attack with 3 figures for 11. Katie Thompson took two wickets, while Isha, Heena Hotchandani, Indrasaja Nandkumar, and Vaishnav Mahesh claimed one each.
Isha’s all-round performance earned her the Player of the Match Award. She ended with her century bowling figures of 1 over, 1 run and 1 wicket.
With this win, the UAE went to the top of the points table with four points and a strong net run rate of 6.998. He first defeated Malaysia by nine wickets in his initial match. The UAE will face Malaysia at the same place in Bangkok on the next 13 May.
Overall, nine teams are divided into three groups of three teams that are participating in this leg of each qualifier. The top three teams of each group will make it on the super three stage, in which the overall winner will make it in the next stage.
