The National Inter-State Athletics will be eager to cut most athletes, with the final selection test for the next month’s World Championship (13 to 21 September) at Nehru Stadium from 20 to 24 August.
So far, only four – Neeraj Chopra (Jewelin), Gulver Singh (5000 meters of men), Parul Chaudhary (female 3000 m steepleches), Praveen Chitkarwell (Men’s Triple Jump) – have made it in the world through entry standards.
The Tamil Nadu Athletics Association first hosted the National Inter-State Meet Way in 1968. Senior citizens were last held here in 2022.
Around 700 athletes representing 35 teams across the country will participate in Chennai.
Some of the major athletes in Tamil Nadu include Praveen Chitrawell (Triple Jump), Vithya Ramraj (400m hurdles), Abinaya Rajarajan (100 meters), participating in others.
Other major athletes in other states include National Jewelin throw record holder Annu Rani, Punjab’s double Asian Sports Champion and East Asian Shot Record-Holder Tajinderpal Tor Singh, three times Asian silver medal winner Tejaswin Shankar (Delhi) High Jump, high jump, former Kerala’s Asian Champion Triple Jampal Abobacket and 800m Abobaccabac Aboback Asbacked.
In addition, Animesh Kujur, anteente sprinters from Odisha and Amlan Borgohen from Assam, Long Jump from Kerala, Asian silver medal winners Murali Srishankar, Ace Hurdlers Tejas Shirsa (Maharashtra) and Pragian Sahu (Odisha) are among some of the top names.
