Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal has written a letter to the party’s supremo and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, urging to appoint a Dalit leader for the Leader of the Opposition in the Delhi Legislative Assembly.
Taking X, MP Swati Maliwal wrote that Kejriwal should appoint a Dalit leader in the Delhi Assembly as LOP to pay “true” to Babasaheb Ambedkar.
He claimed that Kejriwal had promised a vote to appoint a Deputy Chief Minister from a Dalit community in Punjab, but it has not happened yet.

“A letter @Arvindkejrial Ji has been written today to make an MLA from the Leader of the Opposition from the Dalit community in Delhi. 3 years ago, Kejriwal promised in Punjab that he would make Dalit Deputy Chief Minister, but this promise has not been fulfilled till date. I hope that this time she will pay a true tribute to honor Babasaheb Ambedkar by making a Dalit MLA from Delhi, “Maliwal tweeted in Hindi, attaching the screenshot of the letter.
In his letter, Maliwal wrote, “Making a Dalit leader a omission will not just be a political step, but it will be an important step towards following our basic principles.”
It comes on a day when the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), after a gap of 26 years, a storm came in the national capital, it is expected to announce the name of the Chief Minister.
The AAP party lost the Delhi elections by winning only 22 seats in the 70-Sashetra assembly, paving the way for the BJP to return to power after more than 2 decades. As the AAP ended during the 10 -year rule of the AAP, many top AAP leaders, including Kejriwal, lost the battle of pole.
Meanwhile, Atisi retained his Kalkaji seat. On the other hand, the Congress could not open its account in the national capital.
AAP will be in protest in the city for the first time.
Delhi’s political circles prevail with the speculation of at least four AAP MLAs, including Gopal Rai and Ati, who are emerging as potential candidates for the position of LOP.
