The recent weather has destroyed Kentaki, which has received heavy rains, causing widespread floods. Between Friday night and Saturday, there is about 7 inches of rain, causing rivers to flow and transform the roads into waterways, especially 2022 floods affect the rebuilding areas.
The disaster has claimed 11 lives, displaced hundreds of lives, and left more than 14,000 inhabitants without electricity. More than 170 National Guard personnel and rescue teams from Kentki, Ohio, North Carolina and Indiana have been mobilized to help.
“This is one of the most serious weather events that we have settled in a decade at least a decade,” said Kentki Governor Andy Aashiar.
The region is now facing additional challenges with forecasts that predict 6 -inch snow, which will obstruct rescue and cleaning operations. Beshear has urged citizens to stay warm and seek emergency or shelters when needed during cold weather.
Pike County, located in Eastern Kentaki near West Virginia and Virginia borders, faced the most important impact. The region has experienced more than 1,000 rescue, with about 300 roads closed and seven wastewater facilities provide non-governing facilities.
The state has recently experienced a boom in extreme weather events, including floods, tornadoes, and mudslides. The flood of Eastern Kentki has claimed more than 50 lives in the last four years, while in 2022 there were 80 fatal in the western region of the state as a result of a tornado.
This time, despite better preparation, the region continues to struggle with serious weather effects, including better forecasting and early emergency reaction deployment. “We knew that it was coming,” said sheer.
Frequent floods are related to climate change. Researchers at the University of Kentaki suggest that the thin soil of the area cannot absorb rain and increasing amounts of ice, causing more frequent and severe floods. “It is difficult to answer,” sheer said, accepting the increasing frequency of these extreme events.
The flood toll will be felt for a long time, the recovery efforts are expected to continue, while threatening to add challenges ahead of the snow storm.
