After Sweden, Denmark aims to eradicate cervical cancer by 2040

Copenhagen:

The Denmark Society said on Monday that Denmark had to eradicate cervical cancer for a national HPV vaccination campaign and screening program by 2040.

Danish Cancer Society said in a statement, “Even before 2040, some women may have the disease that it can be erased.”

“This will be the first time a cancer has disappeared,” said this.

The current cervical cancer rate in Denmark is less than 10 out of 100,000, according to a study for Danish Medical Journal Ugacruft.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO) criteria, the disease will be eradicated when less than four phenomena rates per 100,000 women are lower.

In Denmark, vaccination rate against human papillomavirus (HPV), the main cause of disease, is 89 percent for girls and boys for boys of 12 years, for two doses.

It is shy only 90 percent of the target.

Free vaccine was introduced for girls in 2008–2009 and for boys in 2019.

In addition, 60 percent of women in Denmark accept free screening offers, which is slightly lower than the 70 percent participation target.

According to regional cancer centers in Sweden, the neighbor Sweden may beat Denmark to the post: It aims to eradicate cervical cancer by 2027.
