Canadian Dennis Shapovalov continued his giant-killing run at the ATP Dallas Open on Saturday, defeating defending champion Tommy Paul 7-5, 6-3 to book a title struggle with second seed Kasper Rood.
Norway’s Rood excluded Jom Munar of Spain 6-2, 2-6, 7-6 (7/4) to reach the final.
Unseed Shapovalov, who excluded World No. Four Taylor Fritz in the second round, needed just one hour and one and a half hours to get a second top -10 rival in a week in the ninth place.
He will get another chance against the world number Five Rud on Sunday, who received a break to force the decisive tiebreaker in the 10th game of the final set.
“The second and third set (Munar) actually carried on it,” Rud said, who thought he could benefit from some veins from Munar because he served for the match in the third.
