Former Mumbai captain and selector Milind Rege died on Wednesday, February 19 at the age of 76. A highly-educated person on the domestic circuit, Reega, died a few days after his 76th birthday after a heart attack on Wednesday.
Reege was admitted to the intensive care unit at Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai and died at around 6 am on Wednesday. He has survived his wife and 2 sons. All -rounder had a heart attack at the age of 26, but made a brilliant comeback to the field and the Mumbai team captain in the Ranji Trophy. Reege played 52 first-class matches between 1966–67 and 1977–78, and took 126 wickets as a right-arm of-brake bowler. He also contributed to the bat, scoring 1,532 runs at an average of 23.56.
A childhood friend of the legendary Sunil Gavaskar, Rege, attended the same school and college as an Indian legend and played with him at the Dadar Union Sporting Club. Reege played several roles throughout his career and was associated with the Mumbai Cricket Association as a cricket advisor.
Tributes for the rage
Sachin is earning a tribute to Reg after his death with Tendulkar. Tendulkar said that Rege looked at him early and asked him to play for CCI.
“It was sad to hear about the death of Milind Rege Sir. He was a true Mumbai cricketer with immense contribution to the city’s cricket. He and other CCI members saw the ability in me and asked me to play for CCI, which is now I look back, a historical moment in my career, a difficult to have a difficulty of his friends and family.
The BCCI also expressed its condolences for Reege’s family in a tweet on X.
As a mark of honor, the Mumbai team decided to take the ground on Wednesday in 3 days on their Ranji Trophy match against Vidarbha wearing a black armband.
