India said that India is not expecting a major impact from US President Donald Trump’s undeclared announcement on mutual tariffs, sources said CNBC-TV18,
Trump wrote a cryptic social media post a few hours before his scheduled meeting with PM Narendra Modi at Washington DC on Thursday. In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote, “Three great weeks, perhaps best, but today big: mutual tariff !!! Make America great again !!!”
The tariff is expected to be discussed between the two leaders during the meeting at the White House. The US President has said many times that Trump’s post is a plan to implement mutual tariffs to countries- aimed at matching American import duties along with tax rates levied by other countries.
Following the bilateral meeting, there is a possibility of announcing a roadmap for a strong trade treaty with specific arrangements in India and the US sector, “the sources said, both countries can declare a trade deal with a collapse of 2025.
Additionally, India is expected to give more access to American industrial goods and in turn, it can seek more access to labor intensive manufacturing products in the US.
According to sources, additional tariffs on Canadian and Mexican goods have opened an opportunity for India in a way.
