Indie Slow-Fashion Brand Mykynd celebrates Mundu

Indie Slow Fashion Brand Mykynd raised Kerala Mundu in more white color than a piece of clothes every day. It plays with colors, clothes and style, caressing unheard Mundu to push its borders.

Unmesh Dasthakhir launched my co-founder and mykynd with “Muse” Army Rasool in September 2024 as a curate range of locally produced Mundas that lends themselves in the personal style of the wearer Is. Unmesh search for fabrics using fine Jamdani and even linen. Using a color bold swatth, and print, these mundas with poetry to the casual and formal wearing world. The list of hand block print, jacquard, natural-indigo-dide and reversible styles, performance is fresh. Kerala Kasavu is also visible, in color and again with block print.

“The idea, though, is not to stand out, but the mixture is,” claims Anmesh.

While he is the creative head of the brand, an engineer, army, its “left brain”. NIFT, a multi -scope artist and photographer with a master’s degree in design from Delhi, was in the corporate sector for more than 25 years, working with textile and apparel manufacturers and fashion retail brands in India.

He took a break and entered the consultancy, working with the Khadi Board, offered design support for a campaign to appeal Khadi for Young Demographical. “In this way I joined with Khadi and Handloom again,” Anamesh says.

While his job took him to fashion and textile fairs in different parts of the world, he was equally in touch with weavers’ societies, artisans and designers across India. The journey of the micund is, they say, was biological. As an initial experiment before the launch of the brand, they found Kanhirod Weavers Co-operative Society in Kannur to weave Indigo Mundus and the final product was refreshing. “The weavers took some time to heat the idea and my designs, but they distributed,” UNMESH. The brand believes in moral labor practices.

Designs are pointed and contemporary, yet they are of classy. They can be styled with shirts, tees, denim jackets and sneakers. They are lightweight weight and also come in single and double versions, not to mention that they are gender fluid. “Shatorial sensations of the youth population have passed through a change and it is largely inspired by new wave films, hip-hop music, gender discourses, climate consciousness and social awareness,” says Anamesh.

When he recently showed his collection at the Music Festival Cupa Culture in Kochi, UNMESH found a group of potential buyers eager about clothes and was interested in detecting its journey. “Many people wanted to know if they could wrap Mundu differently. I want to build a story around the process and reach the community. This is a type of education, the sharing of knowledge, ”they say. Unmesh also did an Indigo plant at its counter to convince the story of Indigo Die.

Unmesh says that it is important to accept, recognize and support the abundance of skills in the handloom region, especially at the age of fashion, unmesh. “This is the main purpose behind this project,” he says.

Currently, Mykynd has only an online appearance. Unmesh is located in Bengaluru and is busy showing the collection as a popup across India. Each collection comes with a cover art, which features a painting, painting or photograph by independent artists based on Mundu or its surrounding weaving culture. It is also possible for those who want it.

Mundas are creatively named after the places in Kerala, which ends with the word ‘Kara’, which means boundary. So you will get anything from Aruvikkara to Alkakar, Chittatkara, Nandakara and Chauthanikara to mention something.

“Mundu is part of Malayali (South Indian) identity. By contemporary, the purpose is to expand its scope and take it to the widespread selection of the wearers, which understand its roots and its possibilities, ”Unmesh is called.
