Former Mumbai captain Milind Rege – Famous as Mumbai Cricket’s Encyclopedia – died on Wednesday (February 19, 2025) in a hospital due to heart arrest. He was 76 years old.
An off-spinning all-rounder shown in 52 first-class matches in the golden age of Mumbai cricket was a part of the five consecutive Ranji titles for Mumbai. His game career was small due to cardiovascular issues in the late 20s, but he not only returned to the competitive field, but also enjoyed a sterling career away from the field.
In addition to the title of communication wing in Tata Sports Club and Tatas, Rege served Mumbai cricket in various abilities. He was proud to highlight talent as a selector. From Sachin Tendulkar to Yashasvi Jaiswal, he was one of the first former cricketers to present his talent and promote him at the highest level. For the last four years, he was planted as an advisor to the Mumbai Cricket Association.
Thanks to the couple growing simultaneously in Mumbai, Rege can be known as Sunil Gavaskar’s best friend outside Mumbai. But for the piles of Mumbai cricketers and other top cricketers, who played corporate cricket in Mumbai, Reege was a source of advice and inspiration. His command on the language, the ability to break the game and the habit of joining the youth appreciated by all. It also appeared during many of his stents as television commentator and expert.
Former India all -rounder and coach Sandeep Patil paid tribute to the departed soul. Patil said, “My aid system of life has gone today Hindu From Kolkata. “My book release (in November 2024) said ‘See you in Kolkata’. I was waiting to meet him!
He said, ‘He played a very important role on the field in my life. He and his wife Raj stood behind me in my efforts. Mumbai has lost its biggest supporter, their contribution in helping and making the career of young talents will be unmatched! He was loyal to Dadar Union, CCI and MCA. Even in his late days he always wanted to be a part of Mumbai cricket as a long -serving selector and administrator! I will keep remembering him. ,
Former India female captain Diana Edulji, who is also an MCA advisor, referred to Rege as his guide. “My guide and friend Milind Rege woke up for the sad news of the demise. We played cricket in the same era. His contribution to Mumbai cricket was excellence. Together, we worked as an advisor to MCA. His creative thoughts were always in the interest of Mumbai cricket. We will remember him in future meetings, ”said Edujali.
Reege is alive with his families by wife Raj, sons Siddharth and Aditya. The funeral will be performed in Mumbai on Thursday (February 20, 2025).
