Hundreds of workers employed by the City Municipal Corporation staged a protest outside their office in Kalburgi on Thursday, condemning the objectionable behavior of an elected member of the civil body.
Organized under the banner of Kalaburagi Corporation Officers and Employees Welfare Association, agitating staff said that Riyaz Ahmed, an elected member of the corporation, attacked and attacked the employees on duty during the approval of encroachments in ward number 4.
He said that the member also threatened him to murder and demanded action against him.
“Being in a responsible position, elected members and his followers not only disrupted folk servants, when they were discharging their duties, but also attacked and threatened the murder staff. Legal action should be initiated by registering a case at a police station and providing adequate security to the employees. We also ask for steps to cancel the membership of Mr. Riyaz Ahmed’s Civic body, ”an employee said during the agitation.
After presenting a memorandum to Corporation Commissioner Avinash Shinde and Mayor Yalappa Nikodi, demanding action against Mr. Riyaz Ahmed, the agitating employees took out a procession in the Deputy Commissioner’s office and submitted a memorandum to Additional Deputy Commissioner Reppa Hunasgi.
Honorary Chairman of Kalaburagi Corporation and Honorary Chairman of Employees Welfare Association, RP Jadhav, Vice President Sunil Kumar Onti, General Secretary Abadas Khathal, Leader Savitri Salgar, Prahlad BK, Arif Ahmed, Verry, Arjun, MD Adil, Vinod Kumar, Alladin and others were present.
