A day after the violence erupted at Udayagiri police station in Masuru, authorities have taken five persons into custody for participation in the attack. The incident, which took place late on Monday night, injured seven policemen, who was injured as a mob, who gathered on social media to demand a handover of the person accused of posting derogatory material.
According to the police, tension erupted after the accused, who had allegedly posted stimulating material, was held at Udayagiri police station. A large crowd gathered outside, which insisted that he was handed over to them. When the police refused, the situation increased, in which the mob damaged vehicles and attempted a storm in the campus as per a report on PTI.
To control unrest, the police resorted to baton allegations and removed tear gas shells to disperse the mob. Senior officials, including Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) R Hitendra and Mysuru Police Commissioner Seema Latkar, reached the spot to restore the order.
Addressing the situation, Karnataka Home Minister Ji Parmeshwar on Wednesday assured strict action against those responsible. Parmeshwar told ANI, “All those who took the law into their hands have been identified using CCTV footage. 5-6 people have been detained. In such an incident, we have someone Do not even leave … “
