During an individual tragedy, one has to undergo various emotions, which was based on Navi Natarajan’s ‘Virodhasa-the Paradox’. It was presented at the 2024 Margazi Festival of Krishna Gana Sabha.
Newia detected opposite elements through different sections – form and formless, construction and destruction, Poona and Shoya.
Shiva Ramya’s Shiva Thandwa Stotram and Adi Shankaracharya’s Nirvana Suktam were focusing on the visualization of verses taken. The materiality of the form was captured with powerful, vigorous movements, exposing Jota Mudi (locks of hair), intense game of dance icon pose and body cycles. Both the manufacturer and destroyer were depicted through the sound of fire and Damaru.
The idea of coming with pain and fear was expressed through magnificent choreography (newia) and lighting design (Surya Rao).

Navya used Akka Mahadevi’s viewing, so that interesting molds – peacocks and clouds, and bees and flowers can express the mood against intimacy and freedom through flowers.
The abundance and emptiness were expressed through joyful movements and moments of peace, so that the inner voice could be experienced. The voice of Tambura was an interesting idea to show how someone should tune the inner voice.
Beauty dress design by Kriti Uthapa, music composition and orchestration by Ms. Sukhi, Sanskrit songs by Arjun Bhardwaj and Tamil songs by Raghuraman and a large team of musicians complemented the concept.
Virodahabhas dance has an exciting progress towards new and abstract subjects. It came beautifully in Navia’s intense performance.
