Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in the French city of Marsile on Wednesday, where he said that Freedom Fighter VD “Veer” Savarkar attempted “courageous escape”. This will be the last day of his three -day visit to France, where he inaugurated the second Indian consulate in the country after the embassy in Paris. After concluding the French tour, it will be on an American visit on 13 February. He was welcomed on 10 February by an encouraging voting of the Indian community.

On the last day of its three-day visit to France, there are programs to deepen India-French relations on the agenda, such as the inauguration of the second consulate in the country and a ceremony to pay homage to the soldiers who died in the first and second world wars Mazargues War Cemetery. France connection of India during British colonial rule
PM Modi thanked the people of Marsile and French activists for his role on the Indian freedom struggle when he “demanded that he was not handed over to British”.
During the British rule, Savarkar tried to flee the British ship Moriya in July 1910, while he was taken to India for testing. He escaped from the ship’s Purthol, Swame shelter and was returned to British authorities by French authorities who caught him. He was later sentenced to life imprisonment in Cellular Jail in Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
