To prevent discrepancies in financial reporting, the Reserve Bank of India has directed all agency banks – to handle government transactions – to be open on 31 March 2025 (Monday), despite being holiday in many states .

The purpose of the new instruction is to ensure that all government-related financial transactions, including receipts and payments, are properly recorded within the 2024–25 financial year ending 31 March, 2025.
On March 31, the government symbolizes close to the financial year of the government, which means that all transactions related to government revenue, payment and settlements should be met before the new financial year starts.
Banking services available on 31 March 2025: The following services will be available on March 31, 2025:
- Government Tax Payment (Income Tax, GST, Customs, Excise)
- Pension payment and government subsidy
- Disbursement of government pay and allowance
- Public transactions related to government schemes and subsidies
1 April Bank Holiday: According to RBI instructions, banks will be closed on 1 April (Monday) in most states and center areas except Meghalaya, Chhattisgarh, Mizoram, West Bengal, Himachal Pradesh and Meghalaya for the annual account completion.
Digital Banking: Online and mobile banking services are expected to be operational for government -related transactions (such as tax payment and fund transfer). Customers should verify specific instructions with their respective banks.
