India’s vice-captain Shubman Gill continued his stellar form with a record-brakeing century in the third and final one-day international against England at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Wednesday. The 25 -year -old opener reached his seventh ODI hundred, reaching only 95 balls, which strengthened his reputation as one of the most consistent batsmen in the format. Gill’s milestone knock also scored two remarkable records. He became the fastest batsman to reach 2,500 ODIs, achieving feats in his 50th match, crossing Hashim Amla of South Africa, who had recorded records in the first 51 innings. Additionally, the captain of Titans in Gujarat scored 5000 international runs in just 131 innings in forms.
His impressive performance in the ODI series against England has also seen him climbing second place in the latest ICC ODI batting rankings, who beat India’s captain Rohit Sharma. Gill’s 87 and 60 scores in the first two Odis had already put him in a dispute for a top position, and his century in Ahmedabad has further promoted his standing among the world’s aristocratic batsmen.
Gill’s love affair with Ahmedabad continued as a batting site as he gave another major performance so far. The right -handed batsman first registered his highest T20I score of 126 against New Zealand at the same place in February 2023.
A month later, he scored his first Test century against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, scoring 128 runs off 251 balls. In nine innings in Ahmedabad, Gill has an excellent average of around 80, making its second most productive site after Harare Sports Club in Zimbabwe, where he has also scored more than 400 runs.
Gill scored 112 runs in 102 delivery, including 14 limits and three maximum.
