Unemployment rate According to the Periodic Labor Force Survey (PLFS) released by Statistics and Program Implementation in New Delhi, there was 6.4% for persons in urban areas of the country and 6.4% for individuals aged 15 years and above. Tuesday (February 18, 2025). For male, the unemployment rate during this period was 5.8%, while for the woman it was 8.1%.
Last year, during the same quarter, the unemployment rate for the age above 15 was 6.5%, while in the last quarter of July to September 2024, the rate was 6.4%. Last year, the female unemployment rate was 8.6%.

In states, Himachal Pradesh had the highest unemployment rate with 10.4% and the lowest in Gujarat with 3.0%. The female unemployment rate was also the highest in Himachal Pradesh with 24% and the lowest in Delhi was 1.3%. The PLFs defines unemployment rate as a percentage of unemployed individuals in the labor force in the current weekly status (CWS) – the number of either employed or unemployed individuals on average in a week.
Labor force’s participation rate (LFPR), the percentage of population in labor force was 39.6% for people of all ages. This was 39.2% in a similar quarter last year. The LFPR for women has increased by 0.1 percent compared to the previous year’s 19.9%. However, the LFPR decreased by the 20.3%figure in the previous quarter. The lowest LFPR for all people and women is the lowest in Bihar with 30.7% and 9.9% respectively. PLF was among 1,70,487 people in 45,074 houses.

Activist population ratio (WPR) in urban areas between 15 years of age and above has increased from 46.6% to 46.6% from October to December 2023 to 47.2% from October to December 2024. WPR for men aged 15 and above, from October to December 2024, urban areas increased from 69.8% to 70.9% from 69.8% in October to December 2023.
Workers are classified into three broad categories according to their status in employment such as self-planned, regular wages/salaried employees and accidental labor. Within the category of self-employed, two sub-grains are created as their own account worker and employer, together in joint and domestic enterprises. Among these categories, 39.9% were self-employed, 49.4% regular employees and 10.7% were casual laborers. 5.5% of the workers were in the agriculture sector, 31.8% of the workers were in the secondary sector, including mining, and 62.7% of the workers were in the tertiary sector including the service sector.
