Number 2-Rank IGA Swiyatech was stunned by Mirra Andreeva in the Dubai Championship quarterfinal on Thursday, when he lost to a player under 18 on the first tour.
The 17-year-old Andreva won 6-3, 6-3 to become the youngest semi-finalist in Dubai’s 24-year history.
Swetec took his only previous match in Cincinnati last August, lost the first set and won 7–5 in the third. He re -accepted the first and the other had a break up, but Andreva closed the last five matches.
“I was nervous before the match,” said number 14-rank Andriva. “I told myself that I have played very well in my last match and I just need to keep playing aggressively.”
This is his fifth win over a top -10 player and is second at number 2 -he defeated Aryana Sabalenka in the French Open Quarter Final last year.
The Russian teenager faced the sixth seed Elena Rybikina next time, who defeated Sophia Kenin 6–2, 7-6 (2) to improve 3–0 against the American.
Dane, who knocked on Sabalenka on Wednesday, defeated Linda Noskova of Czech Republic 7-6 (4), 6-4 to beat 6-4 to reach his third semi-finals. She will play the role of Karolina Muchova, which finished Sorrana Sirstia 6–2, 7-5.
